Overview of StibniteSTIBNITE

Stibnite , sometimes called Antimony Trisulfide or Antimony Sulfide , is a sulfide mineral with the formula Sb2S3. This soft grey material crystallizes in an orthorhombic space group. It is the most important source for the metalloid antimony. The abbreviation for antimony, Sb, is taken from stibnite.According to its different particle sizes, manufacturing methods and production conditions, the formless antimony trisulfide is provided with different colors, such as gray, black, red, yellow, brown and purple, etc..Antimony trisulfide is easy to be oxidized. Its fire point - the temperature when it begins self-heat and oxidation in the air depends on its particle size. When the particle size is 0.1mm, the fire point is 290 Centigrade; when the particle size is 0.2mm, the fire point is 340 Centigrade.

Usage of Stibnite

In ancient times, it was used as mascara called kohl.Antimony trisulfide finds use in pyrotechnic compositions, namely in the glitter and fountain mixtures. Needle-like crystals, "Chinese Needle", are used in glitter compositions and white pyrotechnic stars. It was formerly used in flash compositions.Antimony trisulfide is widely used in the war industry including gunpowder, glass and rubber, matches, fireworks and friction materials and so on as the additive or catalyst, anti-blushing agent and heat-stabilizer and also as the flame-retardant synergist replacing antimony oxide.
